CAMBRIDGE, NEW CONCORD & ZANESVILLE, OHIO EVENTS


Join us as we celebrate the life and legacy of Astronaut, Senator and beloved son, John H. Glenn Jr. who was born in Cambridge and raised in New Concord. The counties of Guernsey and Muskingum have come together to recognize what would be his 100th birthday on July 18, 2021. Most of the events and activities will occur the weekend of July 16 – 18 while others are scheduled throughout the month.

Open for free walk-through tours and birthday treats Historic 1962 “Friendship 7” NASA film shown in the classroom
2:00 Astronaut Mike Fincke
Astronaut Mike Fincke will make a virtual appearance via Zoom at 2 p.m. in the classroom area on the bottom level of the museum.
Fincke is originally from the Pittsburgh area and is one of the most experienced astronauts at NASA, having spent more than a year in space and done quite a few space walks. He will be commanding the first manned flight of Boeing's new Starliner capsule coming up within the next year. He will speak about his own history and experiences then answer questions.
Arrive early or stay late to view the Friendship 7 film that will be shown at 1 and 3 at the John & Annie Glenn Museum.

The John Glenn Centennial Celebration is made possible through sponsorships and partnerships with organizations throughout the region. The planning task force is still soliciting donations to support the celebration. Interested organizations and individuals may donate through the Muskingum County Community Foundation’s website.
