Chapman’s Coffee House

Wednesday, May 1, 2019 by Brandon Lacey

You may never visit a better coffee shop in your entire life. Chapman’s is a great place to stop for a great time in New Concord, Ohio. You will read about the items on the menu, the service and surroundings, and the history of Chapman’s.

Chapman’s has a great selection of coffee and food items. They have many different types of coffee. I would say my favorite is the double espresso. The pricing isn’t too bad either. It costs about $5 for the double-shot espresso. I also liked the sausage and egg biscuit sandwich, which costs about $4. Walking inside, you have two great, white chairs with a table in between to relax and wait if there is a line. The ordering counter reminds me of an old timey deli, in a good way. When you do order your food, they have nice sitting tables, but I really enjoyed their booths. You can also sit outside underneath the shade of two big trees and enjoy the community that is New Concord. They have a decent parking lot. Many college students from Muskingum University come to the coffee shop for great service and to relax to do school work. They have their own Wi-Fi system and a printer, so students can do most of their school work there. The location of Chapman’s Coffee House is 88 ½ Main Street, New Concord, Ohio. It is located right next door to the John and Annie Glenn Museum.

The coffee shop was founded in the early 2000s by Kelly Shook and Amy Wolfe. In 2015, they sold the shop to Pat and Judy Mullen of Duncan Falls, Ohio. They then sold it to Garrett Chapman in 2016, who changed the name to Chapman’s Coffee House.

I choose this place because it has a great atmosphere and great service with great food and a lovely town to visit. The opening times are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. They like to help the community out by having sales every now and again. The food is always prepared beautifully, and the coffee is always fresh to the taste. I usually try to stop there every time I travel between Zanesville and Cambridge to at least get an espresso because it’s the best coffee around Muskingum County. If I had to say anything bad about Chapman’s, it would be that the bathroom wasn’t the cleanest. They also serve different types of soft drinks. For example, they have Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and other related soft drinks. They serve many different coffees. They have regular, decaf, espresso, cappuccino, lattes, and most variants of them. They sell fancy food bowls that look delicious, but I did not try them. They have different meats as the starter that they mix with different vegetables and toppings of your choice. They have a quality selection of breakfast items, which I will say are their best food choices. They have the solid eggs with bacon and/or pancakes. I would choose just pancakes and bacon drowned in quality maple syrup. Sitting at a booth for me would be more comfortable than the chairs they have, but they do have a good amount of space for their customers to relax inside or venture outside to the sitting areas underneath two big trees that has a glimpse of downtown New Concord. Also, they sell sandwiches and sides with them. The best one I have seen was a solid Philly steak and cheese with a side of French fries. The cheese dripping off the bun really looks delicious, and using the French fries to scoop up the extra cheese that does fall off is magical. Now, it’s not a coffee shop without quality coffee products. I truly enjoyed the double-shot espresso, but they have pretty much any option of coffee to choose from. The parking extends around the outside sitting area for enough room for twenty cars, and people to sit outside. Many college students will enjoy that they have a free Wi-Fi system along with a printer, so a college student could do most school work from the coffee shop. The ownership has changed about four times since the opening in about 2004. The name was recently changed from The Crumb and Cup to Chapman’s Coffee House, named after the current owner, Garrett Chapman. It was a great pleasure and honor to write about a place that has brought me joy for many years.
