Triple Locks and Side-Cut Canal

In 1825, the state legislature authorized the construction of the Ohio Canal to connect Lake Erie at Cleveland with Portsmouth on the Ohio River.  To make shipping goods easier, Dresden dug a side cut canal to connect the Muskingum River to the canal.
